Star Wars was one of my favorite movies of all time. Just to make it clear, I am talking about the original one. I loved it so much, I had Star Wars wall paper, Star Wars sheets, and so man Star Wars action figures. Fast forward to present day, I still love Star Wars and I still have tons of Star Wars action figures, but I can't help but feel that the franchise was a little ruined by the newer movies. I was discussing with my friends about how one of the main problems was that Lucas turned the franchise from awesome science fiction movies for a more adult audience, to more kid friendly movies. But anyway, lets talk about the all new three dimensional experience.
After seeing episode 1 in 3D, I am reminded of how bad it actually was. I have seen it quite a few times, but mostly when it first came out. I secretly didn't mind the movie while a lot of people I knew trashed it. I suppose I just wanted to like it so much because of my love of the original trilogy. Seeing it know, there was so much that I realized I should have been angry at when it was first released, Jar Jar Binks for one was enough to push you over the edge. Now on to the 3D effects. The 3D effects should have been incredible, but alas, not so much. There was some cool depth added to the movie, but that was about it. With the pod racing scene alone, there should have been tons to make pop off the screen, but not much happened. The only actual part that popped off the screen with 3D was in the pod racing scene when Anakin had to reach a rod out to grab one of the couplings that came loose.. When things exploded, nothing seemed to come off the screen. Now some might argue that the 3D being subtle may have been the way to go, but if you are going to go and make yet one more version of the movies, they should be crazy good 3D with things jumping off the screen at my face! Maybe that is their plan, 7 years from now, they will release the ultimate 3D Star Wars movies with jump off the screen in your face technology, so we will all have to go see them again. But alas, it is Star Wars and Lucas has me by the wallet strings so I will obviously be seeing the rest of them in 3D when thy are released, but it doesn't mean I have to like it (but I probably will, especially when the original trilogy is released).
