As you all probably could have guessed from the lack of posts from this past week, we didn't see any movies. That's OK, I guess we don't need to go to the movies all the time, but I am having withdrawals, so maybe we do need to go to movies all the time.
This is still a young blog, so we are trying to decide if we want to review only new movies, or more than that. This week, there is an awesome looking DVD (animated) coming out for comic book fans ( I swear, we watch more than just superhero based movies). Oh yeah, the name of said DVD, Justice League: Doom. For fans of the Superman/Batman the Animated Series, Kevin Conroy reprises his role as Batman, and Tim Daly reprises his role as Superman and IMHO, they play these roles the best of anyone. Also, Michael Rosenbaum reprises his role as The Flash, and Nathan Fillion (love this guy) will be reprising his role as Green Lantern (my favorite). I think there are others reprising roles as well, but I can't remember off the top of my head, and I am too lazy to look it up. How's that for honesty?
I will be watching that sometime over the next few days as I am going on a trip and need something for the flight. I will be looking for some non comic based movies to review soon, so keep an eye on the blog for the review for Justice League: Doom, and other non comic related movie reviews.
When measured against the first film, this sequel is not that bad. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is leaps and bounds better than the first movie. I really thought about walking out of the first movie it was so bad. I had friends that thought the first movie was so bad it was funny, I just thought it was so bad it was bad. Now this movie was so bad it was funny, but I think that may have been the intent. Nicholas Cage was over the top nuts, and the acting was so crazy it was laughable, but the character of Ghost Rider was described as an angel that was driven mad so they actually explained the crazy which made the over the top acting of Nicholas Cage understandable. All in all, this had the feeling of a fun B movie with laughs at some cheesy parts, some really good special effects (better than B movie special effects), and some really fun action scenes. I would recommend waiting for video so you can get some laughs at home in the comfort of your own living room and not pay the jacked up 3D movie prices. If you like the character of Ghost Rider, this movie was a lot better than the first installment, so you may want to give it a try, I mean come on, from the first movie, it couldn't have gotten any worse.

Check out this chase sceen from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Seriously, Why!?!?!? Did movie executives not watch the first Ghost Rider? I think the first Ghost Rider was actually one of the worst movies ever made, and I have seen Firestorm starring Howie Long. I love comics and movies based on comics, so I will bite the bullet and see this movie this weekend. I will be seeing the movie for two reasons, 1. So I can give you all an awesome movie review, even if the movie isn't that awesome and 2. to torture my friend Johnny who hates all things Nic Cage and who I will be making see the movie with me and maybe even helping me give the movie review. I will let you know how this turns out, so stay tuned for the full movie review this weekend
I have to admit, after seeing the first trailer of this movie, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. It hasn't been very long since the other movies have come out, so why reboot them? But now, after seeing the brand new trailer for this movie, all's I have to say is wow, I cannot wait to see this movie!!! Sure, Peter Parker may seem a little more punk and a little less nerd, but wow it looks great and I cannot wait ( I know I already said that, but seriously, I really can't wait for this movie).
Star Wars was one of my favorite movies of all time. Just to make it clear, I am talking about the original one. I loved it so much, I had Star Wars wall paper, Star Wars sheets, and so man Star Wars action figures. Fast forward to present day, I still love Star Wars and I still have tons of Star Wars action figures, but I can't help but feel that the franchise was a little ruined by the newer movies. I was discussing with my friends about how one of the main problems was that Lucas turned the franchise from awesome science fiction movies for a more adult audience, to more kid friendly movies. But anyway, lets talk about the all new three dimensional experience.
After seeing episode 1 in 3D, I am reminded of how bad it actually was. I have seen it quite a few times, but mostly when it first came out. I secretly didn't mind the movie while a lot of people I knew trashed it. I suppose I just wanted to like it so much because of my love of the original trilogy. Seeing it know, there was so much that I realized I should have been angry at when it was first released, Jar Jar Binks for one was enough to push you over the edge. Now on to the 3D effects. The 3D effects should have been incredible, but alas, not so much. There was some cool depth added to the movie, but that was about it. With the pod racing scene alone, there should have been tons to make pop off the screen, but not much happened. The only actual part that popped off the screen with 3D was in the pod racing scene when Anakin had to reach a rod out to grab one of the couplings that came loose.. When things exploded, nothing seemed to come off the screen. Now some might argue that the 3D being subtle may have been the way to go, but if you are going to go and make yet one more version of the movies, they should be crazy good 3D with things jumping off the screen at my face! Maybe that is their plan, 7 years from now, they will release the ultimate 3D Star Wars movies with jump off the screen in your face technology, so we will all have to go see them again. But alas, it is Star Wars and Lucas has me by the wallet strings so I will obviously be seeing the rest of them in 3D when thy are released, but it doesn't mean I have to like it (but I probably will, especially when the original trilogy is released).
